Fast food, deprivation and obesity

24 Oct 2005

A report to be published in November in American Journal of Preventive Medicine the suggests that there is a link between McDonald?s fast food outlets and obesity in deprived areas of England and Scotland. Researchers [unidentified] measured the number of McDonald?s restaurants per 1000 people in each of 38,987 locations. Although the report does not specifically blame McDonalds for obesity levels, its findings appear to support the idea that there are “environmental explanations for the higher prevalence of obesity in poor neighbourhoods”.
