19 Dec 2005

A report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition Consumption says consumption of plant-based foods seems to reduce the risk of elevated blood pressure, while meat consumption increases it. Dr Lyn Steffen and colleagues at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis say their study is one of the few to address this topic in young adults ? in 4300 subjects, comprising roughly equal numbers of black and white men and women, between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of a 15-year assessment.
