Scientists in the US say the benefits of eating a diet rich in fish outweigh the risks associated with the ingestion of mercury. In a ten-year study of the diets of children in the Seychelles researchers at Rochester medical school found that despite the consumption of around ten times as much fish as the average American, and the fact that the fish contained high levels of methylmercury, the children’s brains did not show the defects normally associated with mercury absorption.
