Linoleic acid supplements affect fat distribution ?irrespective of diet?

24 May 2006

A study by scientists in Norway and the Netherlands shows that conjugated linoleic acid supplements can cause a change in body fat distribution, while leaving body mass index the same. A team led by Dr Alexandra Einerhand of the Lipid Nutrition Center in Loders Croklaan, Wormerveer, the Netherlands, notes that reductions in fat mass are detectable after 3 months of supplementation – in the abdomen and legs in women and in the abdomen only in men. Subjects with the highest BMI at baseline showed the greatest response to conjugated linoleic acid supplementation, they say.
