Survey finds making one's own meals is associated with a better diet

15 Dec 2006

Research published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association indicates that young people who frequently make their own meals have a much healthier diet than their peers who do not. Nicole Larson and colleagues at the University of Minnesota surveyed 1,710 18- to 23-year-olds about shopping for and preparing food, concluding that “Young adults might benefit most from courses [at university] that teach skills for preparing quick and economical meals as time constraints and cost were the main barriers to preparation.”
