Is the "new" thing as bad as trans fats?

25 Jan 2007

Research suggest that one of the products being introduced as a replacement for trans fats may be no better for health. According to a study published in Nutrition & Metabolism “interesterified” fats may not only reduce HDL levels but also cause a significant rise in blood sugar. Dr KC Hayes, of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, says the finding worrying in part because the study volunteers used the fats for only four weeks, during which time their blood glucose “went up quite precipitously”.
