Researchers in the US say reducing food intake and taking more exercise are equally good at helping with weight loss. According to the team, at Louisiana State University, there is no way selectively to lose in particular areas of the body, nor does increasing muscle mass increase metabolic rates. “It’s all about the calories,” says Dr Eric Ravussin, “So long as the energy deficit is the same, body weight, fat weight, and abdominal fat will all decrease in the same way.” The team?s results are published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
