Trials "must take account of alternative treatments"

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology suggests that the use of herbal medicine is common among patients with advanced cancer who are participating in phase I clinical trials of experimental drugs. Dr Christopher Daugherty and a team the University of Chicago say the results would justify intensive questioning of trial volunteers about their use of complementary and alternative medicines.
