Pre-natal vitamin supplementation

22 Feb 2007

Scientists in Canada say prenatal use of multivitamins fortified with folic acid helps reduce the risk of three common types of childhood cancer. Dr Gideon Koren, of the Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto, who has reviewed the findings of seven articles on prenatal supplementation, says, “This affordable approach could contribute to a significant reduction in the number of childhood cancer cases diagnosed each year, which has huge implications for society at large.” Dr Koren?s conclusions are published in Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics.
