Anti-cancer properties of antioxidant

A natural antioxidant called pterostilbene may help prevent colon cancer, according to an animal study reported at the national meeting of the American Chemical Society, in Chicago. Dr Bandaru Reddy and colleagues at Rutgers University and the US Department of Agriculture found that in rats with induced colon cancer the animals that received a pterostilbene supplement had 57 per cent fewer pre-cancerous growths than those fed a balanced diet only. Pterostilbene is similar to resveratrol, which is found in grapes and red wine; it is also present in grapes, but is more abundant in blueberries.
