Further evidence of harm caused by trans fats

28 Mar 2007

A study at the Harvard School of Public Health confirms the wisdom of reducing intake of trans fat. According to the results found by Dr Frank Hu and colleagues, women with the highest levels of trans fat in their blood are at three times more risk of heart disease than those with the lowest levels. The team analysed blood samples from more than 32,000 nurses between 1989 and 1990 as part of a long-term study of the effect of oral contraceptives, diet and lifestyle on the development of heart and other diseases. The results are published in the journal Circulation.
