Scientists at the University of Buckingham?s Clore Laboratory are developing an infant formula designed to prevent babies growing up fat. Their research is based on the fact that early exposure to the hormone leptin can cause the brain to prevent over-eating throughout life. The formula is being developed by Professor Mike Cawthorne, director of metabolic research at the laboratory. His previous research, showing the effect of leptin on weight gain in animals, was published in the American Journal of Physiology.
