Omega 3 keeps getting better

25 Apr 2007

Two studies appearing in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition say high levels of omega-3 highly fatty acids in the blood may preserve cognitive ability in the elderly. The effect, it apppears, is particularly striking among people with high blood pressure or high cholesterol levels. One research team, from the Netherlands? National Institute for Public Health and the Environment in Bilthoven, concludes that EPA and DHA intake are significantly related to cognitive decline, though not to cognitive impairment. Meanwhile, a team at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has found that high blood levels of EPA and DHA are associated with a reduced decline in verbal ability.
