Apple juice and asthma

29 May 2007

Apple juice may protect children against asthma, says The National Heart and Lung Institute. In research results published in the European Respiratory Journal, it says children who drink apple juice at least once a day are half as likely as those drinking it less than once a month to suffer from wheezing. Eating fresh apples appears not to offer any benefits. Project leader Dr Peter Burney, says it is possible that phytochemicals â?” including flavanoids and phenolic acids – help reduce the inflammation in the airways which is a key feature of both wheezing and asthma.
