Benefits of dietary calcium

A calcium-rich diet may be better than supplements for keep women’s bones strong after menopause, according to a new study in the US. Writing in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Dr Reina Armamento-Villareal and colleagues at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis say in their study group even women whose total calcium intake was less than others’ had higher bone mineral density at several point on their skeletons if their lower calcium intake was diet- rather than supplement-based.
