Cancer risk "reduced in men"

31 Jul 2007

Eating vegetables, in particular green leafy ones, seems to reduce men’s risk of developing colorectal cancer, say scientists in the US. Dr Yikyung Park and colleagues at the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, Maryland, says their results show that men who consume very small amounts of fruit and vegetables are at 26 per cent more risk of having colorectal cancer than those who consume greater amounts. Women with the highest daily consumption appear to be at a slightly increased risk but the authors say this may be explained by reporting errors. The results are published in the American Journal of Epidemiology.
