A quarter of all adults admitted to hospital and care homes in the UK are at risk of malnutrition, according to the British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. Its data on more than 11,500 new admissions to 372 institutions over three days show that it is not just older patients who are at risk. Professor Marinos Elia, chair of the BAPEN, says the results establish the fact that malnutrition is a major public health issue.
