Research by scientists in London indicates that nutrition in the first weeks of life could have a profound impact on the way the brain develops. A team at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and the UCL Institute of Child Health, led by Dr Elizabeth Isaacs, has found that premature babies fed enriched formula milk in their first weeks consistently outperform other premature babies in IQ tests. The results, which are published in Pediatric Research, show that the benefits continue into the teenage years.
