Association between ADHD and eating disorders

19 Mar 2008

Teenage girls who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder may have a much higher risk than others of developing eating disorders, a study at the University of Virginia suggests. Lead author Amori Yee Mikami says this may be because these girls’ impulsiveness makes it difficult for them to maintain healthy eating and weight, and leads them to be self-consciousness about their bodies. The study is published in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology.
