Dietary solution to heart risk in rheumatoid arthritis

19 Mar 2008

Rheumatoid arthritis patients may be able to reduce their risk of heart attack and stroke with a gluten-free, vegan diet, according to research in Sweden. Scientists at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm say study subjects on the diet showed a reduction in total cholesterol and specifically a reduction in the amount of low-density lipoprotein. The volunteers also had a lower Body Mass Index (BMI) than the control group at the end of 12 months.
