Women "skip meals to save calorie count for drinking"

Weight-conscious women may cut back on food so they can continue to drink alcohol drinking without taking in extra calories. In phenomenon colloquially known as drunkorexia, they have been observed to fast before going out socially. Louise Noble, chief dietician to the Berkshire Healthcare Trust, says there is huge pressure on university students, for example, to drink and to be thin. A correlation between eating disorders and alcoholism has been established for some time. Last year a report published in the American journal Biological Psychiatry found that up to a third of bulimics abuse alcohol or drugs.
