Breastfeeding and iron levels

27 Mar 2008

Research at the University College of Medical Sciences in Delhi indicates that there is no increase in the risk of iron deficiency in babies that have been breastfed exclusively for their first six months. The finding, published in the International Breastfeeding Journal, holds even when the mothers are iron-deficient. The researchers, led by Dr Shashi Raj, point out that the findings do not apply, however, to babies born prematurely.
