Scientists at Oxford and Exeter have found evidence that diet can influence a baby’s sex before it is conceived. Their results suggest that high energy intake around the time of conception makes it likely that a woman will have a male child. The finding may explain the fact that fewer males are being born in the west ” at a time when women are eating more low-fat foods, among other factors. In addition to consuming more calories, women who have sons are likely to have a higher and wider than average nutrient intake. The results appear in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences.
