Diabetes-flavonoid trial

30 Apr 2008

A team at the University of East Anglia is to investigate whether eating chocolate can reduce the risk of heart disease in women with diabetes. Volunteers – postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes – will be asked to eat a bar of chocolate, containing more flavonoids than usual, every day for a year. The aim is to test the theory that adding flavonoids to the diet may give additional protection against heart disease to that provided by prescription drugs.
