The use of pacebo that parents can administer to deal with childhood aches and pains has been criticised by UK medics. Obecalp is available in the US, where placebos may not be prescribed but may be marketed as health supplements. Dr Douglas Kamerow, associate editor of the BMJ, says the product “medicalises” parental care and attention.
