Researchers at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center and Duke University, in the US, have found that giving increasingly large amounts of milk to children who are allergic to it can ease their reactions and even help some overcome the allergy completely. Lead researcher Dr Robert Wood, the director of Allergy and Immunology at John’s Hopkins Children’s Center says it appears that the process “gradually retrains the immune system to completely disregard or to better tolerate the allergens”. The findings are reported in the Journal of Allergy & Clinical Immunology.
